In early 2013, the City of Bessemer initiated a project to transform a 17-acre park into a comprehensive recreational complex featuring baseball fields, multipurpose fields, outdoor basketball and tennis courts, walking tracks, and a 60,000-square-foot recreation and wellness center. This facility marked the city’s first major public recreational development in over 50 years. Charles Williams & Associates, Inc., in collaboration with consultants, worked closely with the mayor and city council to plan, budget, and design the project. The new center officially opened in the spring of 2016, offering two full-size basketball courts, an indoor swimming pool, a multipurpose auditorium, multiple fitness areas and rooms, and an interior walking track that overlooks the entire facility.
