Located in the western area of Birmingham, Powderly Library adjoins the recreation facility. The library board wanted a dedicated, iconic entry that would set the library apart from the recreation center. The interior of the library was completely renovated and the large entry piece was constructed.

 

The entry lobby, constructed with brick and glass on the exterior which traverses through the interior, creates a congregation space that may be desirable just outside of the library reading room. The high volumes and full height glass wall promote a sense of openness. This renovation utilizes a ground source heating and cooling system which help to decrease energy cost.
