UAB ROTC Facility
Birmingham, AL

Client: University of Alabama at Birmingham
Size: 14,000 Square Feet
Completion Date: 2019

The University of Alabama at Birmingham initially engaged Charles Williams & Associates, Inc. to provide architectural and engineering services for the renovation of an existing building to accommodate the university's ROTC program. However, a detailed assessment of the original 1980s wood-framed structure revealed that a complete replacement would be more cost-effective.
As a result, the decision was made to demolish the old building and construct a new, 14,000-square-foot metal-framed facility that fully meets the ROTC program’s spatial requirements. The new building includes administrative offices, classrooms, and multifunctional training areas, supporting a wide range of activities. This shift not only met the program’s functional needs but also allowed UAB to extend its architectural language to the western part of the campus.
